Non-latex condoms are perfect for people allergic to latex. Some of these are made from polyurethane which is a type of plastic or the so-called synthetic thermoplastic elastometers while the others are made from polyisoprene.

Polyurethane

Condoms made of polyurethane are thinner compared to the latex ones. Since they are thin, they have higher sensitivity and are more preferred by users who want a condom that gives them a more natural feeling. It just needs more lubrication as the material is not that very flexible. The good thing here is any kind of lubricant whether water-based or oil-based can be used with these polyurethane condoms unlike the latex condoms which only use water-based lubricants.

With this, the polyurethane condoms serve as an effective contraceptive and protection from sexually transmitted diseases.

Clinical studies have shown that while polyurethane condoms have a tendency to break, they are considered acceptable alternatives for people not in favor of using the latex type as well as those allergic or sensitive to latex. In some pre-marketing studies, it was found that consumers preferred the polyurethane condoms over the latex in terms of appearance, lack of rubber smell, likelihood of slippage, comfort, sensitivity, natural look and natural feel.

Polyisoprone

These natural skin condoms are loose-fitting but without the reservoir tips and provide more sensitivity during sexual intercourse. Oil-based lubricants may be used with this type of condom mainly because they are made of natural membranes.

Skin condoms do not come in the standard sizes but they are packaged with a water-based lubricant to keep the animal membrane moist. They are available in a rolled or a flat and unrolled form.
