Non-Latex Condoms Getting Positive Feedback

Non-Latex Condoms Getting Positive Feedback

Many people know that most condoms are made of latex rubber. But perhaps what they don't know is that condoms are now available in non-latex materials. While it's true that latex is more durable and reliable, these non-latex materials are also a good alternative.

Non-latex condoms are perfect for people allergic to latex. Some of these are made from polyurethane which is a type of plastic or the so-called synthetic thermoplastic elastometers while the others are made from polyisoprene.

Polyurethane

Condoms made of polyurethane are thinner compared to the latex ones. Since they are thin, they have higher sensitivity and are more preferred by users who want a condom that gives them a more natural feeling. It just needs more lubrication as the material is not that very flexible. The good thing here is any kind of lubricant whether water-based or oil-based can be used with these polyurethane condoms unlike the latex condoms which only use water-based lubricants.

When it comes to price, though, these are more expensive. As for durability, this type ensures any user's protection so long as the instructions on how to use it is followed correctly. With this, the polyurethane condoms serve as an effective contraceptive and protection from sexually transmitted diseases.

Clinical studies have shown that while polyurethane condoms have a tendency to break, they are considered acceptable alternatives for people not in favor of using the latex type as well as those allergic or sensitive to latex. In some pre-marketing studies, it was found that consumers preferred the polyurethane condoms over the latex in terms of appearance, lack of rubber smell, likelihood of slippage, comfort, sensitivity, natural look and natural feel.

Polyisoprone

LifeStyles has made a breakthrough in condoms by being the first to use polyisoprene in its Skyn condoms. This is the latex-free pure form of rubber but LifeStyles made a synthetic version. What's great about this material is that it can allow the making of thinner condoms.

LifeStyles' Skyn condoms are the first polyisoprene condoms to be clinically tested and approved in the U.S. market. They are thinner and smoother during skin to skin contact. Just like the regular latex, this one is as strong but provides more sensitivity because of its ultra thin quality. Additionally, it is very stretchy therefore it fits well, soft and comfortable to use giving both partners the chance to enjoy a more pleasurable sexual experience.

The Skyn condoms are made by Ansell Health Products, makers of the popular LifeStyles condoms. They are available in natural color without any odor in packs of three and 12.

Natural skin

Natural skin condoms are made from the cecum or intestines of lambs. Lambs are said to be the only domestic animals with ceca that are of the right size and shape ideal for a condom. These natural skin condoms are loose-fitting but without the reservoir tips and provide more sensitivity during sexual intercourse. Oil-based lubricants may be used with this type of condom mainly because they are made of natural membranes.

Skin condoms do not come in the standard sizes but they are packaged with a water-based lubricant to keep the animal membrane moist. They are available in a rolled or a flat and unrolled form.
